what is life

This article is quite interesting in that it seems to be saying some of the same things about “what is life” that I have been trying to say over the past few months. It does focus on one critical aspect of life, that of self replication, whereas I have tended to look at 3 aspects of what if means for something be alive, however in my my view self-replication is probably the most important in any definition. The other interesting thing about this article is that it does seem to be acknowledging that a virus could be alive (and maybe even more fundamentally some types of  molecules). This would be my view, but it does begin to make the boundary between organic – life and organic – not life, even fuzzier.
